There are faster, bigger and more expensive netbooks/laptops out there. But if you want great basic functionality, a great keyboard and fantastic battery life in a little package, this is just superb value. Bought this for my gf who's a writer and wants to take it around everywhere and write, write, write, with a bit of net browsing and an occasional movie. The laptop performs these tasks very well on the go, fits in a handbag, and the charger stays at home as the N140 needs to be charged as often as a mobile phone. In reality 8 hrs of battery when in constant use (typing on word with music playing into headphones).

I bought a white N140 and it is a very beautiful, well built machine with a real quality feel to it. Windows 7 starter is far better than XP but you do get the sense that it is slightly underpowered (compared to my NC10 running XP). Take heed to adjust your battery power settings, the default setting is for 50% processor power on battery use making it impossible to Skype or watch YouTube. When adjusted to 100% processor power the machine works well enough for all Netbook tasks and the battery still lasts for 9 hours.

I'm pretty happy with my purchase of the Samsung N140 netbook. It seems to work as it should. The keyboard is easy to use and the screen is clear. It runs live streaming TV ok but struggles with HD. The only thing I've noticed is that the battery meter changes a lot. E.g. when I turn it on, it says I have 7 hours left, then 10 minutes later the battery meter tells me I have only 5 hours left. I'm not sure why that is, but I suppose having an extra 5 hours left is still a lot of juice for a netbook.

Samsung N140 10.1-inch Netbook (Atom N270 1.6 GHz Processor, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, BT, Webcam, up to 10 Hour Battery Life, Windows 7 Starter, White)
Wow! Am I pleased or am I pleased! This little netbook is an amazing piece of kit.
Keyboard (anti-bacterial silver coating too)
I like:
++ size - keys are excellent for fast typing (I'm not a touch typist) and the 'reach' (from front to back) is much better than a normal size laptop, so it's really easy to type.
Not so keen:
-- It's taking a bit of time to get used to where the home and end keys are, and I keep hitting \ when I go for the shift key. Minor problems though.
Screen
I like:
++ size, but then that's why I bought it
++ quality of graphics really good for a netbook
Not so keen:
-- Resolution. It does not give a proportional size to a normal screen, but then neither does my 17 inch laptop. What I mean is that you have to do a bit more scrolling than on a normal desktop monitor although you can use CTRL+scroll to zoom in and out.
OS - Windows 7 starter
I like:
++ It being the latest Windows. I liked Vista and hated XP. I waited just long enough to get the N140 with Windows Starter. Brilliant! There's meant to be a maximum 3 programs open with Starter, but I haven't come across that yet and I am usually quite busy with OneNote, Word, Excel and Firefox.
++ Connected to my home wifi instantly, as it does to the printer, server and other PCs.
Not so keen:
-- Limitations of Win 7 Starter. Can't change desktop colours being the main one. Otherwise it does most of what I need. Can't watch DVDs on it, haven't had to yet, but it would be good to be able to. An upgrade to Home Premium is cheaper via the Windows Anytime Upgrade button than it is to buy from Amazon or elsewhere (at time of writing).
Battery life:
I like:
++ Long life per charge - 6+ hours of heavy, fast internet browsing. I could get more if I chose a less power hungry mode I guess, but then I want to use it. I always run the battery right down so that I will get the maximum life from it before it will need replacing (something I regret not doing with my laptop).
Other
I like:
++ 250GB hard drive - which I have formatted equally into 2 drives.
++ Integral Bluetooth - saves having a separate dongle.
++ Charging USB port to charge mobile etc when netbook shutdown- can be switched on or off.
No so keen:
-- Slip case - would be better if it had a pocket to hold my 3 dongle (Voda one doesn't like Windows 7 on this).
-- Extra cost of buying an external DVD drive.
-- Touchpad - but I don't like them anyway, always use a trackball with it and my laptop anyway.
-- Would have liked the option to have 2GB RAM with purchase, although I have upgraded separately, to be honest I'm not sure it has made much difference.
-- All the crapware. But easily uninstalled in favour of my own preferences.
-- When I use the 3 dongle I get a memory parity check error and shuts itself down, when I use home wi-fi it goes on forever without any errors.
Overall, I adore this netbook and I'm really pleased I hung on for it; not least because the price went down as well. Why settle for an older OS version, with a smaller drive when you can get this? I like the slightly glittery white too!

Love it love it love it!! This is a good, stragithforward, easy to use netbook. It's light, slips easily into a (large-ish, admittedly) handbag, looks great and works more quickly than I'd expected. The battery life is amazing - hasn't yet run out on me and I use it regularly at airports for long periods of waiting time.
It comes with the Windows 7 starter and a trial 12 month Microsoft office, and with its own cover which is good protection. The keyboard is (obviously) smaller than a laptop but I've found it easy to negotiate with only occasional problems locating the shift key - but that's just a question of getting used to it.
No good if you want to play games or watch videos but if you want a good, basic netbook for working on the move, buy this - you really won't regret it.
